Casting Call: (Comedy) Laura (Jimmy's Mom)

Laura is a supporting character. She is Jimmy and Mary's mom. She is the opposite of her over reactive husband, Hakeem (Pops). She is calm and collective most times. She protects her children from her husband's craziness. Jimmy is her favorite. She has never smoked or drank. In character terms she is the "wise sage". She used to be a party girl. Well seasoned.

Audition Notes: Our hero Jimmy wakes up and gets ready for the day. His best friend Jimmy makes his entrance. He checks on his mom.

INT. JIMMY LIVING ROOM - DAY

The sound of laughter fills the kitchen. Jimmy peeps his head in to see his mother LAURA laughing at her phone.

LAURA

Those cats is so funny. Oh lawd. I can't take it.

Jimmy washes some fruit and gives it to Laura. Laura puts down her phone.

MOM

That's my baby, such a sweetheart...but um...where is the meat?

JIMMY

With your blood pressure, I don't think so Ma. This gone make you live to be 200 years old.

MOM

200 years. Oh lawd. That is too long. I don't know if I like folks enough to be around that long. Naw, I'm good.

JIMMY

You know you a trip. But I feel you.

LAURA

How have you been baby?

JIMMY

I'm good momma.

LAURA

You sure. All you do is work. Now I know you have to make money but you have to live too baby.

JIMMY

I'm alive. I got friends.

LAURA

You got Billy. He's a good friend but you need more. You need to socialize. Find a nice young lady to give your family charms.

JIMMY

Oh my goodness...

LAURA

What? You think I'm not hip. I wasn't old forever. Ya momma used to drop it real low. How you think I got ya daddy.

JIMMY

Daddy say he got you.

LAURA

He wishes. He missed every signal I threw to him. I literally had to shut him up and kiss him. He still was lost. I found him though and I love him so much.

HAKEEM

(O.S.)

I love you too baby.

MOM

He was just like you. He didn't mess with anybody. I had to mold him. He still hates everybody, but he behaves when I ask him.

The conversation is interrupted by a knock on the door. Jimmy burst through the door.
